Baker’s Eco Rep History

October 7th, 2012 by cmh6

 2010 – 2011

  • “Obscurities” recycling bins were purchased and placed in the commons for batteries, printer cartridges, packaging material, electronics, athletic shoes, and clothes (bin in laudry room).
  • Several bottles of Seventh Generation biodegradeable laundry detergent were bought and tested in the Baker laudry room at the beginning of the fall semester.
  • $1000 Green Funds went toward funding the “Local Foods Exhibition Dinner” to showcase Baker Servery’s Farm-to-Fork program with Atkinson Farm. The event was also set up to raise awareness about the local foods movement and the Rice Farmer’s Market.

Goals:

1. One recycling bin for every trash can at Baker – make sure they stay there.

2. Get Cabinet involved in Environmental Committee events.

3. Make sure recycling is provided at every Baker event and recyclable cups are used.

Progress:

  • Found obscurities bins in Parker Redman Lounge – moved to back of commons – Rose wants them moved out of commons
  • 9/7 Meeting with Brad Thacker:
    • found out where nice grey recycling bins are stored (basement)
    • H&D will make more of an effort to replace moved bins
    • work to move vending machines indoors (new wing ice machine room/servery hallway)
    • place obscurities bins in servery hall – need to find nice table to place on
    • “H&D Misconceptions” dinner planned to address policies
  • Looking into moving vending machines to Library hallway
    • contacted upper and lower 4th
    • approval from Masters
    • Brad is taking measurements
